Grave Willow began in Spring 2021 as a creative canopy for a closely-bound group of musicians and artists. Restlessness, vision, and catharsis are never far from personal transformation. Grave Willow is born from such qualities. Informed by historical instances of creative collectives, the project seeks to foster engaged and authentic work from across the globe.
Here, engagement is understood as that which emerges from — and transforms — deep personal experience. In this sense, authenticity is the principle of carrying out such work honestly — an end in itself.
Grave Willow acknowledges this dynamic as encompassing both the celebratory song and the dirge. The creative destruction of the artistic process is embodied by the willow growing from a grave.
This project is extended as an offer, a beckon, a refuge, a lament, and a celebration.
